Rural Tourism
Madhya Pradesh is a state rich in cultural and natural resources, with a significant portion of its population residing in rural areas. This creates a great opportunity to promote Rural Tourism, a niche market that fosters strong emotional connections between tourists and local communities. Rural tourism enables preserving the local culture and heritage while offering an authentic rural experience. The state is divided into six cultural regions: Baghelkhand, Bundelkhand Chambal, Malwa, Nimad, and Mahakaushal, each with its own unique traditions, customs, food, dialects, and art forms. Through rural tourism, visitors can enjoy the rural lifestyle, including traditional food, crafts, local sports, and eco-friendly practices. Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board has initiated a Rural Tourism Project in 125 villages to provide tourists with genuine and immersive experiences.
The primary goals of this project is to increase tourism by showcasing cultural experiences, improve local living standards, promote sustainable tourism, and preserve the state’s rich cultural and environmental resources. Additionally, it aims to support rural livelihoods by highlighting local handicrafts and ancient arts, ensuring gender and social equality, and increasing the number of tourists and overnight stays in the state.
