Clean Destination
With the growing number of tourists, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB) understands the critical need to maintain the cleanliness and sustainability of its tourist destinations. To achieve this, the active participation of local communities and visitors is essential. In alignment with its commitment to sustainable tourism, MPTB launched the "Project Clean Destinations" under the Responsible Tourism Mission. The project's goal is to ensure the environmental sustainability of these destinations through collaboration with local communities, local administration, and private partners. It is built on the principles of Responsible Tourism—creating better places to live and visit.
Launched by the Honourable Governor of Madhya Pradesh on February 20, 2022, the project is supported by Coca-Cola India through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and implemented with technical assistance from the NGO SAAHAS. Initially focused on 30 villages surrounding Panna National Park, the project includes awareness campaigns, behavioral change programs, and training sessions to effectively engage both the local community and tourists. Its key objectives include promoting sustainable waste management, improving sanitation and hygiene, and fostering community involvement in environmental conservation, while also raising awareness about the importance of cleanliness.
Building on the success of this initiative, the project has now been expanded to the villages surrounding. Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in January 2025. In this new phase, the Swachh Bharat Mission is also integrated into the program’s implementation.
