Lord Mahakal is seated in an intricately designed silver chariot adorned with flowers. The procession starts at the Mahakaleshwar Temple, heading along specific decided routes with rhythmic drums, chants, and prayers. At Ramghat, abhishek and other sacred rituals occur amidst peaceful hymns before the chariot returns to the temple.

This year, the first Monday of Sawan falls on July 22nd, marking the beginning of the Mahakal Sawari. The grand finale, the Shahi Sawari, will happen on the second Monday of Bhadrapada, September 2nd. This year, the festivities will be even more spectacular with performances by various cultural and tribal groups adding to the grandeur.

The procession will follow a specific route, starting from the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. The route will pass through Mahakal Lok, Gudri Square, Bakshi Bazaar, and Kaharwadi before reaching Ramghat. The return journey will take the procession back to the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple via Ramanuj Kot, Modh Ki Dharamshala, Kartik Chowk, Khati Samaj Mandir, Satyanarayan Mandir, Dhaba Road, Tanki Square, Chhatri Chowk, Gopal Mandir, Patni Bazaar, and Gudri Bazar.
