Government of Madhya Pradesh (Department of Culture) has instituted an annual National Award for Indian Archaeological Studies and Conservation of Cultural Heritage named Dr. Vishnu Shridhar Wakankaer Rastriya Samman 2005- 06
The Samman carries an amount of Rs. 2 lakhs, a citation and a plaque of honour. The award will be given to active Indian citizens/institutions for their constructive contribution, creativity and outstanding achievements in the field of conservation of archaeological heritage and archaeological culture. The norms for selection of recipient of the award will be high level creativity, outstanding achievements, continuous perseverance and undoubted and undisputed contribution in the respective field. It is mandatory that the recommended person/institution is creatively active at the time of selection. Overall construction of the entry recommended for the award would be taken into consideration. Recommendation can be sent in prescribed proforma as given below:-
