Pench National Park, covering 758 sq.km across Seoni and Chhindwara districts in Madhya Pradesh, also borders Maharashtra. The park, named after the Pench River, is divided into Priyadarshini National Park, Mowgli Pench Sanctuary (299 sq.km), and a 464 sq.km buffer area. Declared a sanctuary in 1965, it became a national park in 1975 and a tiger reserve in 1992 under Project Tiger. The park, which inspired Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, is rich in biodiversity, with diverse flora such as Mahua and Salai trees, and is home to various species like Bengal Tigers, Indian Leopards, Gaur, and many birds. Pench offers a blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and wildlife conservation, providing a sanctuary for both animals and the ten surrounding villages. A visit to Pench offers a unique opportunity to explore its rich ecosystem and vibrant wildlife.
