Village Chaugan, located in Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh, is a remote tribal settlement with immense potential for community-based and experiential tourism. The local population primarily depends on agriculture and collection of forest produce for their livelihood. The village falls within the Mahakoshal cultural region and is predominantly inhabited by the Gond tribe, with the area traditionally known as Gondwana. The nearby Baiga tribal community, renowned for living in harmony with nature, possesses extensive traditional knowledge of medicinal herbs, forest biodiversity, and sustainable natural resource management. The Baigas are also associated with rich indigenous spiritual traditions and folklore, which form an integral part of their cultural identity.
