What could be better for a traveller if one gets to enjoy a mesmerising waterfall along with an itinerary to visit amazing places nearby? Patalpani is a beautiful waterfall in the Mhow Tehsil of Indore and is one of the most magnificent and popular waterfalls in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
The Patalpani Waterfall, formed by the Choral River, falls from a height of approx. 300 feet. The depth of the pond that develops at the bottom of the waterfall is unknown, but people colloquially say that it reaches the 'patal' (hell)depths. Hence the fall is known as Patalpani, where Patal means "under the earth's crust" and Pani means "water" in Hindi. The place is surrounded by deep forest cover, towering hills, and lush green sceneries and is a popular picnic spot near Indore.
Monsoon is the best time to plan a trip to Patalpani waterfall and nearby places. Rain gives a vibrant green hue to the surrounding and makes the place smell earthy. The flow of water drastically increases during the monsoon which makes it more picturesque. However, you can also visit during winters, but one should avoid the peak summer season. During the summer, the waterfall almost disappears, and the stream is reduced to a trickle. It is recommended to keep a safe distance from the waterfall and should avoid wearing slippery foot wears.
In addition to the awe-inspiring Patalpani Waterfall, a journey on the Heritage train from Patalpani to Kalakund is a must for travelers seeking both natural beauty and local experiences.
The journey starts at Patalpani Station at 11:05 AM, taking you on a scenic adventure with two stops. The first stop allows you to bask in the beauty of Patalpani Waterfall for approximately 50 minutes, where you can immerse yourself in the natural wonder. The second stop, a brief pause at a charming bridge, grants you the opportunity to soak in the surroundings for about 20 minutes. The culmination of this enchanting journey is at Kalakund Station, where you can explore and experience the local culture from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. As the clock strikes 3:30 PM, the train commences its return journey to Patalpani, ensuring your safe arrival at Patalpani Station by 4:15 PM.
The Heritage Train to Kalakund offers a unique blend of natural beauty and local exploration, making it an unforgettable addition to your visit to Patalpani. Don't miss this opportunity to embark on a scenic journey through some of the most captivating landscapes in the region.
